Excipient: the Ordinary Jewels

exposes the value we place on convenient consumption, from the everyday ingesting of bite-sized goods, to the pop-able dopamine addictions we download from the zeitgeist.

Excipient: The Ordinary Jewels aims to expose and inform consumers of their passive consumption habits introduced by society, by using the pill and its packaging as symbolism. My paintings for this series include imagery of real and imaginary pills that are suggestive of what the average person consumes every day without realizing it. I've placed a heavy focus on textures of the gel pill, the smooth pressed tablet, the metal backing on blister packaging, and plastic coatings juxtaposed with their consumable element.

process

My conceptual process of creating mass-produced studies mimics the amount of blister packs used and discarded in the environment.

Included in this process is a performance video vlog project titled Challenging Myself to 500 Sketches in a Day, which is meant to replicate the mundane action of working an 8-HOUR day.
